Bi-weekly COIN
Charles I, Crown, 29.97g., Tower mint group 3a, m.m. bell, king crowned
and in armour holding a sword upright, on horseback left, the horse undecorated, reads BR FR HIB, rev. oval garnished shields (FRC XV/XX; N.2195; S.2758).
There are some coins which may be described as awesome.
The above Crown is a beautiful specimen, deeply toned with underlying
original lustre, struck on a full flan and as struck. We would not be alone in describing the coin like we do.
A provenance dates from one of the greatest collectors of his age Samuel
Tyssen from 1802 who was followed later by Hyman Montagu a century
later, both men had an appetite for the finest quality.
This piece has been through the collections of Tyssen, Bergne, Neck,
Webb, Lingford, Slaney.
