In 1722 George I gave William Wood a patent to produce halfpence.
Wood's Hibernia coins were minted 1722-1724 but they were not popular. I understand that these early coins have been found in the US. Wood's Hibernia coinage was not struck in large quantities. They are collected as part of the American colonial series.
